Oil & Gas Infrastructure

Protecting pipelines, refineries, and offshore platforms from aerial threats.

Oil & Gas Infrastructure

Oil and gas infrastructure represents some of the highest-value and most strategically sensitive fixed assets in any economy. Drone-based reconnaissance missions against refineries, LNG terminals, and pipeline compression stations have been documented globally. Beyond reconnaissance, modified drones carrying incendiary or fragmentation payloads can trigger catastrophic fires, explosions, and environmental disasters — as demonstrated in recent high-profile infrastructure attacks.

Key Scenarios

Refineries & LNG terminals: Dense pipe structures and process columns require radars with fine range resolution to separate close-in drone targets from static metallic pipe returns. XR series radars with ≤15 m range resolution address this challenge reliably, even in complex clutter environments.

Oil refinery at night with illuminated pipes and towers
Refineries operating around the clock are as vulnerable at night as they are during daylight — radar provides equal performance regardless of ambient light conditions.

Pipeline surveillance: Linear infrastructure stretching hundreds of kilometres requires distributed radar nodes. The low-power XR-RD06A (≤200W) operates on solar power with battery backup along remote pipeline routes, with data backhaul via satellite modem or mesh radio network to a central operations centre.

Offshore platforms: Salt-spray resistance to IP66 standards and extreme temperature tolerance (−40°C to +55°C) are non-negotiable for open-ocean deployments. XR-RD07 and XR-RD08 series are designed for permanent outdoor installation on platform superstructures without additional environmental enclosures.

ATEX Compliance

For potentially explosive atmospheres within refinery battery limits, contact Cyrentis for intrinsically-safe equipment configurations, conduit-sealed cable entry options, and IEC 60079-compliant installation guidance.

Offshore oil platform at sea
Offshore platforms face threats from drones launched from supply vessels or distant coastlines — detection range requirements are typically 5–8 km.
Long-distance pipeline infrastructure
Remote pipeline right-of-way installations rely on solar-powered radar nodes with satellite data backhaul to maintain 24/7 monitoring without grid power.
